lesbianlotties:

The Fear Street Trilogy is all about women’s love and I think that’s something very beautiful and unexpected about it. I’m not even talking about just romantic love. It’s all over the three movies. Women loving and being loved.

1666: Sarah Fier sacrificed herself for the woman she loved. Her friends loved her so much they wanted something better for her and gave her a proper burial. Hannah’s love for her, in the form of the red moss, grew for hundreds of years!

1978: Nurse Lane never accepted the story the police told about her daughter, never gave up on her and finding the truth, never stopped loving her. Cindy and Alice’s dynamic based on the certainty that they still knew each other, who they really were, the friend they used to know but would never stop loving. Then, obviously, the love between the sisters, Cindy and Ziggy, that fought until the end for each other.

1994: Josh fighting anything and everything for his sister. Kate and Simon supporting their loved friend too. Ziggy’s love for her lost sister being present in everything she did, inspiring her to fight. Back with the romance, everything about Deena and Sam. Sam ready to sacrifice herself for Deena again and again, trusting her enough to let her kill her. Deena fighting a hundred years old curse with nothing but a desperate need to save the girl she loves. Sarah and Hannah’s love always there in the background. So. Much. Love.

see i keep thinking about how teenage nick chose tommy to be the next killer probably because he knew him and thought that since tommy was such a nice kid it meant he would probably be a relatively tame killer. but then he wasn’t. because when you’re a kid and you’re about to inherit a legacy of power and privilege and you think maybe you can do so with as little bloodshed as possible. but you can’t. because once you choose to inherent that legacy you’ve already lost yourself to it and no matter how well intentioned you believe you are you’re still profiting off of other people’s pain. anyway fuck nick goode and all his ancestors but especially solomon <3 hope you rot in hell pig <3

I loved how Fear Street Part 3 had flashes from the first 2 parts that reminded us that there were at least 2 times where Nick straight out admitted what he did, but it got overlooked both times.

First, when he accuses Martin of doing the graffiti, and Martin says the spray paint wasn’t his, and Nick says something like “That’s right. It’s mine.” The first time around it seems like he was being sarcastic, (or maybe being a smart ass, like saying “It’s mine now.”), but then we find out it really was his.

Then at the camp, when he tells Ziggy “I let a lot of people die tonight.” At the time you assume it is just survivors guilt, and he is blaming himself for something that wasn’t really his fault.

Then we find out that it really was his fault.

Unexpected awesomeness of FS 1666:

- shows how a guy who is nice to you specifically but doesn’t extend that kindness to anything or anyone else is not good for you. Observe how someone treats others as much as how they treat you. Nick Goode was rubbish in all three movies.

- the red moss didn’t grow below the hanging tree, but around the rock where Sarah and Hannah kissed. We are not defined by our worst moments, but by our best. Not by acts of hate, but by our love.

- all three movies were about girls peeling back all the pretension to learn who they truly are. Sam stopped running away from herself to choose Deena. Cindy stopped pretending everything’s fine to choose to be there for the people she loved (Alice, Ziggy). Sarah went from hesitantly (“this is wrong”) loving her girl in the dark to wanting to kiss her in the daylight.

i really like that they put shots of sarah’s real face even if it was just in flashes to remind the viewer that sarah was a real, innocent woman who was murdered for being in love with another woman then wrongly accused of absolute horrors for centuries and not just some extension/‘old version’ of deena. she was her own woman with her own story. amazing directing and storytelling

moonflowerdamie:

ok but can we talk about traumatising it must’ve been for deena to witness what happened to sarah fier? i mean, sure, she’d be traumatised from what happened with the whole debacle at the mall and being hunted by undead serial killers (who fuckin wouldn’t be), but let’s think about this for a second.

now, i don’t know whether deena experienced sarah’s life in the first person or just saw glimpses of it in the third person, but either way, for her, a lesbian in 1994, that shit must have been fucking scarring. to feel/see the hatred, the injustice, the sheer fucking fear that sarah and hannah went through would fuck anybody up, but for deena it must have been harrowing.

see, she can relate to sarah, in more ways than one: she’s a lesbian, she refuses to conform, she’s brave, she’s defiant, and, above all, she’d do anything to protect the girl she loves. both sarah and deena put themselves in harms way to keep hannah/sam safe. both of them would rather die than see them in pain.

for deena to experience or witness sarah’s life, her terror, her rage, her all-consuming love for hannah, it must’ve screwed her up. to see the full reality of just how deep people’s hatred can go, to see how people like her were treated, it must have terrified her.

not only the fear, but deena also must have felt an agonising sense of injustice for sarah. demonised for who she was, hunted and murdered by the people who were supposed to protect her, and then blamed for a crime committed by the man who supposedly loved her? plus, that blame carried over, and everyone in shadyside cursed sarah fier’s name, believing she was the one behind their misfortunes.

and it must fucking hurt that deena can’t even clear sarah’s name, because who would believe her? how would she prove it? how could she explain that it was never ‘the witches curse’, instead that the town’s gruesome tragedies all stemmed from one family’s greed? so people will go on telling the lie that sarah fier cut off her own hand and made a deal with the devil, unaware that the goode family were behind everything all along?

so yeah, i think deena would’ve been super screwed up by her little trip back into the past, something that isn’t explored in the movie, but that i thought of anyway, and i love her all the more for it; for her determination, her bravery. her sheer fucking strength.

in conclusion, fuck solomon goode and stan sarah fier and deena johnson for clear skin <3
